Saving Water on Your Home Plumbing Fixures

16.8% of water goes into indoor residential showering. There is over 40 gallons of water per day per household. There is 1.2 trillion of water used per year in the US. Standard showerheads  use about 2.5 gallons a minute, but a watersense showerhead uses only 2.0 gallons a minute. A watersense showerhead can save you 2,900 gallons per year.

If every US home installed a WaterSense showerhead the US could save 2.2 billion on the water bill per year. And 260 billion gallons of water per year. Also 2.6 billion a year on water heating bills.

With a low flow toilet, it accounts for 26.7% indoor residential water. Nearly 75 gallons per household per day. Leaky toilets can use up to 200 gallons per day. Watersense toilets use 78%-80% less water, the federal average per flush is 1.6 gallons. Water saving toilets use 1.2 gallons per flush so you can see the savings.

21.7 % of residential water usage goes to your washing machine. A standard washing machine uses 27 to 54 gallons of water per load. That is a lot if you think about it. But if you had a energy star washer the US could have 250 million on energy bills, 20 billion gallons of water, and 540 million kilowatts of electricity.
